**Amaryllis Rigel Helvig** (born 315) is a figure of the C9 universe, recorded as homo sapiens (pyro-kinetic variant), one of the young people who formed the House of Confidence on Aerogaea 347n. She came out of terrestrial and industrial zones.
Amaryllis is recorded for pyrokinesis (thermal generation). Her skin is higher ignition point than standard. She doesn't self-immolate from radiant heat. Joints are hyper-mobile for parkour. She acts as a universal solvent and antidote. Aggressively binds to and neutralizes foreign toxins. Side effect: a hyper-active immune system that may attack benign things if she isn't exposed to dirt regularly. Her skin is fireproof; her lungs are not. The respirator is not cosmetic. She is inhaling her own superheated fumes would sear her alveoli.
The record follows her across 3 periods of life, from year 330 onward. In the last of them she is recorded as master alchemist.
Amaryllis appears in 10 of the 19 chapters written so far, beginning with The Glass House, chapter 2[1].
## Early life
Amaryllis Rigel Helvig was born in year 315. She was 15 years old in 330, the year the Klak Grove was destroyed. The records give her origin as terrestrial / industrial zones. Her development is recorded as rapid maturation (forced by combat environment).
## Scavenger (330–339)
Her standing at this time was scavenger / field tech / the little sister. Physically, small, wiry, constantly covered in soot or grease. She is wearing oversized tactical gear. What defines her in this period is Eevi. Amaryllis pushes boundaries; Eevi pulls her back.
## Lead engineer (340–349)
**Amaryllis Rigel Helvig** (born 316) is a figure of the C9 universe, one of the young people who formed the House of Confidence on Aerogaea 347n, and its scavenger and field engineer. She is a pyro-kinetic variant, and she makes heat rather than carrying a source of it.
Her standing at this time was lead engineer / the forge. Physically, her frame fills out slightly. She trades the oversized coat for practical lab gear. The "Chaos" is channeled into protecting Celestine and Sienna.
She was fourteen in year 330, when the Klak Grove was destroyed, and she is the youngest of the founding group. She is the younger sister of [[life/eevi-charlotte-helvig-norgaard|Eevi Charlotte Helvig-Norgaard]]. She married [[life/chryssander-randolf-lyall-helvig|Chryssander Randolf Lyall-Helvig]] in year 335, and their daughters are [[life/sienna-astrid-helvig|Sienna Astrid Helvig]] and [[life/celestine-elsa-helvig|Celestine Elsa Helvig]]. She kept the Helvig name; her daughters carry it from birth.
## Later years (350 onward)
## Early life
Her standing at this time was master alchemist / teacher. Physically, her hair fades from glowing red to a soft champagne white. She moves less, but her "Snatch" (ESP) is faster than ever. What defines her in this period is teaching Sienna how to understand the monsters she used to burn.
Amaryllis was born in year 316 in the industrial zones, and grew up fast because the environment required it. She is small, wiry and hypermobile, built for parkour rather than for lifting, and she is usually covered in soot or grease and wearing gear cut for someone larger. The goggles and respirator are never far: on her forehead, around her neck, in her hand.
## Abilities
For most of the early years she is the little sister of the House, and the pairing that defines her is with Eevi. Amaryllis pushes at the edge of things and Eevi pulls her back.
The mechanism on record is pyrokinesis (thermal generation).
## The Klak Grove
The record notes eSP "The Snatch" (Telekinetic Apportation). Instant short-range transport of objects to her hand. The effect answers to desire/Impulse. The fire reacts to her want. The cost of it is respiratory load & sensory occlusion. She is effectively blind and deaf to the natural world during combat because she is sealed inside her protective gear (Goggles/Mask). She relies entirely on her team to be her "eyes and ears" while she is the "fire.".
She keeps other people's hours in her head. She knew where [[life/akio-nakayama|Akio]] was at three in the morning by the absence of his footsteps on the stairs, which is how she tracks him when he does not track himself. She is often awake at three[1].
### Novice
In the raid the shot was aimed at her. Chryssander put his shoulder into her and she went down controlled, because she had been moved before and knew how to land, and the bullet went through the space she had been standing in[2]. What followed was her heat going through the grove like a second sunrise[2].
Gross output of heat. The record notes hard to control direction. "Snatch" is limited to small items (keys, grenades).
She had put Chryssander to bed the night before, in a room with a wall of books and a window that undims when the dandelion-yellow one is pulled, having brought him there so he would sleep properly for once after falling asleep mid-sentence[3]. She turns a light wheel slowly so the room fills from the edges inward and does not hit a sleeping person all at once[3].
### Mastery
She works things out early and does not announce it. When [[life/sienna-astrid-helvig|Sienna]] is inside the facility and the House is piecing together what has happened, Amaryllis has already understood it[4].
She has absolute thermal control. She can superheat a specific bolt to 1200°C to loosen it without damaging the surrounding paint. Combat Utility: She doesn't just blow up a door; she reshapes it into a barricade.
## Physiology
### Decline/Shift
Amaryllis generates heat rather than directing an existing flame. Her ignition point is higher than baseline, so radiant heat that would take another person does not take her, and her joints are built for the kind of movement she does at speed.
She focuses on chemical mixing and biological antidotes rather than raw fire.
She also has the reach the record calls the snatch, a short-range retrieval that pulls an object to her hand. Her perception slows during it to allow the coordination it needs. Early it worked only on small things, keys and grenades.
## Character
Her perception runs variable. Normal perception usually, but slows during The Snatch to allow for precise hand coordination. She filters she reads the world through utility. Where others see a destroyed tank, she sees 40kg of high-grade titanium and a working fuel pump. The record notes she isn't distracted. She is cataloging resources. She thinks in radical repurposing. She connects trash to treasure instantly. This enemy drone has a lens. Melt the casing, re-seat the lens, make a telescope for Sienna. The result is always shockingly beautiful in contrast to the environment. When working — smelting, crafting — she enters a hyper-focused trance. Quiet, precise, surgical with her heat. The record notes the wildcard disappears. The record notes the master appears.
She reads the world through use. Where somebody else sees a destroyed tank she sees forty kilograms of high-grade titanium and a working fuel pump, and she is not distracted, she is cataloguing. Her particular talent is repurposing: an enemy drone has a lens, so melt the casing, reseat the lens, and Sienna has a telescope. What comes out of it is usually beautiful, and always out of proportion to the wreckage it came from.
Early in life she held to a lie about herself: "It's not dangerous if I know the atomic weight." / "If I can make it useful, they won't throw it away.”. Later she came to hold the opposite: "Fire warms the house, but only if it stays in the fireplace. Control is love." As a young woman, her voice was high energy, fast, punctuated by giggles or "Oops." Sounds like a manic science teacher. In her prime it became enthusiastic but focused. She uses technical jargon to distance herself from the violence. In old age it turned warm, crackling, eccentric. Tells stories that end in explosions. She speaks in textures and colors. "That explosion wasn't 'loud', it was 'brittle'." She gets frustrated when people treat objects carelessly. The record notes "Don't kick that. The record notes that's a intake valve!”.
In the plateau years the chaos in her turned into a forge, and later into teaching. In age her red hair goes to champagne white, she moves less, and the snatch is faster than it ever was.
## Family
She is married to [[life/chryssander-randolf-lyall-helvig|Chryssander Randolf Lyall-Helvig]].

## Appearances
Amaryllis is present in 10 of the 19 chapters written so far.
- [[pages/glass-house-chapter-2-the-glitch|The Glass House, chapter 2]] — Eevi watched Amy's face while she watched Akio's face while Akio watched the doorway that the food had not come through.[1]

- [[pages/glass-house-chapter-13-the-ally-and-the-ghost-op|The Glass House, chapter 13]] — Amy had watched him do this every time she'd been in his office.[7]
- [[pages/glass-house-chapter-14-the-catch-22|The Glass House, chapter 14]] — Amy could hear it in the quality of the silence — the breathing of someone lying still and not sleeping, which had a different texture than the breathing of someone asleep.[8]
- [[pages/glass-house-chapter-16-the-gambit|The Glass House, chapter 16]] — She plugged in Amy's extraction unit — thumb-sized, built from components borrowed from BNCY's own equipment in pieces small enough that no individual piece would register as absent.[9]
- [[pages/glass-house-chapter-17-the-explosion|The Glass House, chapter 17]] — She'd come over the ridge carrying Amy's arm and running on something that wasn't fuel exactly.[10]
