Book I — The Glass House
The Glass House is the first book of The Confidence, written by Leinder Byron. It covers the last days of the House of Confidence in the Klak Grove and the displacement onto the Great Plateau, and it runs to seventeen chapters and one letter.
Its author was, at the time the book opens, the enemy. Byron led the Lost Boys and raided the grove, and the account he later wrote of the people he raided is the record the rest of the encyclopedia is built on.

The letter
The book opens on a letter rather than a chapter. It is addressed to Chryssander, called Sandy in it, from parents who tell him that if he is reading it they succeeded, and that his mother's warmth is in every beat of his heart. It was found in a box with a flash drive and something that called itself Will, by a boy who was eight years old.
What it covers
Chapters one to seven are the grove: a morning, a breakfast, a raid, the underground lab, the first of Senetis, the arena, and the night the grove came down. Chapters eight to seventeen are the plateau: the caves under it, Raymond, the abandoned farm, the facility, the shelter, the ghost operation, and the gate.
Authorship
Byron raided the House in the third chapter and was beaten there, and forty-seven of his people walked out of the grove in ones and twos. The man who wrote the book is the same man, restored in part and going by his older name.
What separates his account from the other two books of The Confidence is the position he wrote it from. Eon, who wrote the second, was inside the House and recording continuously. Ben, who wrote the third, stayed at home and asked questions of everyone who came back. Byron watched from outside, and turned.
