**Celestine Elsa Helvig** (born c. 326) is a figure of the C9 universe, recorded as homo sapiens (lyall-helvig chimera), raised in the House of Confidence on Aerogaea 347n. She came out of future timeline (~350) and post-collapse sector.

Celestine is recorded for crimson adaptation (environmental & thermal). Her skin is adaptive. In vacuum, pores seal and skin hardens. In heat, pores open and sweat evaporates instantly (steam breath). Closed-loop. She can recycle her own oxygen and blood gases for extended periods, allowing survival in water, smoke, or vacuum. Once she grabs something — or someone, like Marcus — her tendons lock in place. Impossible to dislodge without her consent.

The record follows her across 3 periods of life, from year 330 onward. In the last of them she is recorded as timeline guardian.

## Early life

Celestine Elsa Helvig was born in about year 326. She was 4 years old in 330, the year the Klak Grove was destroyed. She is twin; youngest in the group. The records give her origin as future timeline (~350) / post-collapse sector. Her development is recorded as adaptive stagnation (growth halts during high-stress adaptation phases).

## Years 330–339

Physically, small (140cm), fragile-looking, pale. Mismatched socks. Clings to Marcus. Found as an infant (along with Sienna) by the squad/orphans. She has no memory of "The Future.". Marcus. He is "Dad." She clings to him not because of destiny, but because he is the biggest, safest thing in her world. She hates it when he gets hurt, which drives her to develop her powers early.

## Vanguard (340–349)

Physically, she hits a growth spurt (late), becoming lean and dangerous. She wears the "Sword" title as armor. The apathy turns into teenage rebellion/aggression. What defines her in this period is chrys & Amaryllis. The realization that these "cool team members" are her dead parents.

## Later years (350 onward)

Her standing at this time was timeline guardian / the returner. Physically, fully realized adaptation. She looks like a synthesis of Amaryllis’s fire and Chrys’s precision. What defines her in this period is Sienna. The Sword and Shield finally perfectly aligned. Physically, "Grandma Celestine." She is no longer the sharp, angry wire. She is hardened steel—calm, unbreakable. She tells the stories. She is the one who remembers how the Squad raised her when she was nobody. She teaches the new generation that "Family isn't blood; it's who bleeds for you.”.

## Abilities

The mechanism on record is crimson adaptation (environmental & thermal).

Amaryllis's Fire (Pyrokinesis) + Chrys's Tech (Biological Adaptation). The record notes biomimetic Learning. She learns physically. If she watches Akio fly, her muscles twitch, trying to figure out the density required to float. She learns by doing. The effect answers to environmental threat. The colder it gets, the hotter she burns. The less air there is, the less she breathes. Hug her to calm her down (utilizing his durability against her heat). While her body is in "Adaptation Mode" (Surviving), it pauses all "Growth Mode" functions. She might stay 6 years old physically for 3 years if the environment is too hostile.

The record notes reactive Survival. The record notes she doesn't control it. If she falls in water, she stops breathing. If she gets mad, she steams. Her powers flare with emotion. If she is scared, her skin hardens. She is a walking mood ring with lethal consequences.

### Mastery

The record notes proactive Shift. She can choose to adapt (e.g., hardening skin before impact). Pyrokinesis becomes weaponized.

### Decline/Shift

The record notes temporal Lock. She stops adapting to the environment and starts adapting the environment to her (Tesseract inheritance).

## Character

Her perception runs combat / reactive. She doesn't see the future; she reads the present faster than anyone else. She processes micro-movements — a tensed muscle, a shifting gaze — instantly. She is a counter-puncher. She doesn't start the fight; she ends it before the enemy finishes their swing. She filters nearly closed. To survive trauma, she aggressively filters out emotional data. She sees a trap, not a danger. She sees calories, not food. She thinks in survival logic. The record notes cold, binary. If I scream, they find me. If I stay quiet, I live. She mimics the fighting styles of those she loves. Marcus when defending. Amaryllis when attacking. Chrys when solving problems. She is a living collage of the squad's best traits.

That she doesn't belong to this world or this time. She fights to carve out a space where she fits. Early in life she held to a lie about herself: "I have to be the strongest to be worth keeping." / "I am just a weapon; weapons don't have dads.". Later she came to hold the opposite: "I am not a weapon to be used. I am a shield for those I love." As a young woman, her voice was eerie, flat, polysyllabic words mixed with toddler demands. "The structural integrity is failing. The record notes i want uppies.". In her prime it became sarcastic, biting, guarded. The record notes "Don't touch me.". The record notes raspy, amused. The record notes "Sit down, kid. I was fighting gods while you were still trying to figure out how to walk.”.
